Essex Farm, Essex New York

A few years ago, I read The Dirty Life by Kristen Kimball. I loved the book. She is a great writer—so I've actually read the book twice and may go for a third round. She and her husband Mark own a farm in Essex. The have a lovely history of love, risk and hard work. They now farm 600 acres—producing amazing produce for their community. Their CSA is a gift situation. You should check them out at http://www.essexfarmcsa.com

I am a fan. Called a month ago or so to see if we could drop by. They have organized tours, but we really wanted to visit low key and off season. They were so welcoming and lovely.

This is such a genuine and lovely entity.

Eating on the Wild Side

Just got Eating on the Wild Side by Jo Robinson today. Also recommend Guido Mase's Wild Medicine Solution. Both books remind us of how we can improve our health by eating "wild" herbs, fruits and veggies—as unaltered, unprocessed and straight as possible. These powerhouses of nutrition are the guys that are out there growing naturally. They pump up nutrition and help maintain optimum digestive, body and mind function.. Check these books—you'll be moved to change a few things and kick-up your operating system.

Winter Pruning

We've been self-teaching ourselves on fruit-tree pruning—mostly through YouTube. Also have some cool videos (borrowed): Holistic Orcharding with Michaeld Fillips, Year-Round Vegetable Production with Eliot Coleman and Business Advice for Organic Farmers with Richard Wiswall (also a fantastic book of the same name). Today, after watching several takes, we were ready. Worked with two old apple trees on the north side of the property—and a few pear and cherry trees that are two and three-years old (if that). South and western apple trees are really very old—and really very overgrown. We'll tackle those on another day. P.S., thank goodness for one-suits and Muckmasters.
