Building a Farm Table

There are always a ton of things on our list: heat barn water, build a new barn, add trim, fix faucet, take tape off the ceiling beams, replace windows, prune trees, build a greenhouse, etc... Today, we researched industrial kitchen fans (one day!) and farm table design. We're going to use wood from the property (one way or another) and steel—something galvanized? Anyway, I came across this (below) and thought it was interesting. I got linked to Ana White's web site (ana-white.com). I guess she's a pretty popular interior designer with some ingenuity and flare. I think she's from Alaska. Anyway, check her out if you're into it. Any thoughts on farm table design, please share.

Morning Chores

Super cold this AM, but got up, did a little yoga and headed for the barn. Beautiful, strong sun and a little wind. Kinder than most recent days. Pru's always with me—sniffing with the sheep and snagging a snack or two. Broke the ice for the ducks with the breaker bar—then changed the sheep water for Colorado, Hazel and Jane (small buckets that freeze easily). The water for the larger herd is heated when it's this cold. Fed the sheep, collected eggs, raked and headed back to the house. Made raspberry biscuits, cleaned eggs—and took to my "other" work. Working on packaging for a product line I can't talk about (shhhhh). Of course, cheating in my blog time. Here are some shots of the folks in the barn this morning

New Temporary Countertops!

Yup! it's true. We're in for another set of plywood countertops. New and improved with a little tint and varnish. Next year, cast concrete with a possible inset cutting board/block. Then dinner: Shepherd's pie made with local beef (thanks Steve!), root veggies from the cellar, mashed potatoes (thanks Aaron!) and grated cheese. No pics of this one, but it was stellar—especially served pipping hot in an orange Creuset pot given to me by my mother last year. The bubbling golden cheese looked lovely. Tossed salad with chopped herbs and Suzanne's amazing Levan.

Growing Things to Come..

Started tomato seeds yesterday. Reminded me that spring is "around the corner." It is incredible to me that the earth transpires as it does ((of a plant or leaf) give off water vapor through the stomata.). I am in awe of all of the green things—and await their return/arrival. As I sit in my yummy home this evening, warmed by the heat form our woodstove, I am honored. Yup! Truly honored.
