Stumbing Upon...

Earlier today, after coming up from the root cellar, I stumbled upon...

A collection of stuff I have stashed for making tinctures, but also stuff I've collected (unopened) because I loved it/them—a bottle of red wine purchased in 2005 or so (winemaker commissions a different artist for each label, each vintage), an amazing whiskey and imported herbal digestives (Italy).

Root Cellar—Still keeping in late Feb

Took a spin to the root cellar in our 1798 basement. It's a natural root cellar. Pulled together some sweet (purple and white) potatoes, some carrots, onions and turnips. A couple of beets. Washed them up and made some roasted root veggies (with garlic, s&p and sage), a squash gratin (with duck eggs, grated cheese, buttermilk, pureed butternut squash, cayenne, nutmeg, paprika and s&p) and pan-fried grated spuds. All to be had (over the next few days) with a bottom round roast we marinated overnight—and received in return for some welding work. Thank you! All accompanied by a tossed salad and Irish Soda Bread (baked yesterday). Will let you know how it all turns out.

Again inspired by Yvette, we purchase some pears (sorry, yup, out of season here, but....) and anise (such an amazingly lovely spice—truly a work of art) and boil down with raisins to make a tasty jam. Turned out really well. Come by for a jar? I have lots. Pear and Anise Star...

Wow! Really???? Pru and I find this on the side of the road just beyond the Von Trapp farm. Really? Don't you guys know that they specifically say on the packaging: "Don't be a D-bag, recycle this can..." or something pretty dang close to that? SHAME ON YOU! Plus, you were drinking and driving. Double shame! We carried your can 3 miles and recycled it. Bonus? We love the shot of the boots and HT can. Could not have happened without you—litterer...
